Fashion Weeks at the US Open |

At the 2005 US Open, Dominik Hrbaty made headlines not for his spectacular play but for his peculiar wardrobe choice. His pink shirt with oblong cut-outs in the shoulder-blade area left more than strange tan lines (remember when it was sunny at the Open ). It left people talking about his style, his sponsor and his state of mind. Tennis players have always used their on-court outfit choices to display their personalities, and this year was no exception. Here』s a review of the sartorial selections at the 2006 US Open: Vince Spadea: We haven』t seen this much monogramming since Stefan Edberg incorporated his initials into his clothing line back in the late '80s. You, too, can own the collared shirt with a monogrammed 「S」 that Vince 「Ain』t Afraid of Ya」 Spadea wears on court. The Official Vince Spadea Website sells the shirt in many styles (sorry, the black-and-red striped one is already sold out). His biggest fashion statement of the tournament came during his third-round match with No. 1 Roger Federer. A glittery 「S」 adorned his bright red hat, with more glitter stripes radiating from the center. The design prompted one spectator to shout 「C』mon Sparkles!」 Spadea lost the match and, unfortunately, the one-of-a-kind hat is not available for purchase. Maria Sharapova: She made her 2006 Open debut in a black cocktail dress (exclusively for night matches), inspired by Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany』s . She even completed the look with a bow barrette securing her blonde locks. While that little black tennis dress is not available for retail sale, her daytime ensemble, a light purple dress with a diagonal black stripe and amphibious circular back vents, is selling fast, along with all things Sharapova at the Nike store off the South Plaza. The morning after she captured her first US Open championship, only one 「I Feel Pretty good at tennis」 t-shirt remained hanging on the wall. Jimmy Connors: In a player』s box, sitting next to the obligatory gorgeous blonde girlfriend, there is usually a nervous coach dressed in a track suit with a cap pulled low on his forehead. Not this tennis rebel, who is refreshingly still the odd man out when it comes to coaching wardrobes. For his pupil Andy Roddick』s match against Lleyton Hewitt in Arthur Ashe Stadium, his suit and tie get-up made him look like one of the I-bankers who enjoyed the match from one of the many swanky suites a few feet away. James Blake: Back in the '80s and late '90s, for Andre Agassi, image everything. In the second round, Blake paid tribute to the two-time champ (and the man who knocked him out of last year』s Open). He donned a throwback Agassi ensemble: a white bandana, a hot pink and black striped shirt and, to complete the look, hot pink spandex that peeked out from under his shorts. Blake won the match and went back to the future for round three, and his homage to Agassi won the top-ranked American player some new fans. Bethanie Mattek: She values fashion over function. While you may not know her name, you would remember if you saw her on court. This 21-year-old fashonista teamed up with 2006 US Open singles semifinalist Jelena Jankovic in doubles competition. While most of the other women on tour wear outfits provided for them by sponsors, Mattek prefers wild outfits, free of Dri-fit fabrics and, well, comfort. In the first week this year, her choices included a sheer, sleeveless pink shirt, fish-net stockings up to her knees and a bohemian crocheted shirt. 「I actually don』t buy my tennis clothes in athletic stores,」 she told USOpen.org. 「I just go shopping, and I』ll see something in a window and think, 『Hey, that matches a skirt I already have,』 and suddenly I have my next outfit… It』s all about expression.」 Tommy Haas: This German』s bright orange ensemble got plenty of screen time this year, as he played three lengthy five-set matches in a row. Although the 2006 World Cup excitement in his country has long since faded, it seems as though he has abandoned his Teutonic roots and decided to cheer for the Netherlands full-time. Serena Williams: At past US Opens, her bold wardrobe choices created as much buzz as her tennis game. This budding designer has sported a one-piece black cat-woman outfit, tall black boots and a denim skirt. This year she debuted an Asian-inspired brown dress with purple and gold accents. While the style of the loose-fitting dress may have been eye catching, Williams got far more support from the crowd. Roger Federer: A class act. Still faithfully wears a headband and wrist bands, despite the irony. He switched out the neon this year for crisp blue and even wears a streamlined black warm-up jacket with 「Federer」 emblazoned across the back. Shortly after defeating Nikolay Davydenko in the semis, he slipped a Rolex onto his left wrist before the on-court (and on camera) interview. Federer』s style must also agree with editor Anna Wintour, who sat in his box during the semifinal match. Robby Ginepri: At first glance, Ginepri, dressed in long baggy shorts and sleeveless shirt with contrasting piping, looks like he should be headed to the asphalt courts to play basketball. This is the second year in a row he』s donned the baggy garb, and the style seems to have caught on… Rafael Nadal: Earlier this year at the French Open he was still sporting the tight capri pants that garnered as much ink as his game. But by the end of the summer, he looked as if he wanted to join Ginepri for a game of pick-up. While he may prefer a shorter, roomier short, above the waist he still gives everyone a free ticket to the gun show. Nikolay Davydenko : The surprise semifinalist』s style is as unassuming as his appearance. Unlike most players on tour, the No. 6 player in the world does not have sponsors』 labels on his attire and wears a simple white or grey top with black shorts. Sometimes the Russian mixes it up, covering his balding head (still has the gorgeous blonde girlfriend in his box, though) with a spotless white hat. 本文轉載自:http://shenxia911.spaces.live.com/Blog/cns!56D759465E4F3D72!548.entry live.com 作者: 網 蟲 來源: 搜索引擎 |
